Arizona MEP Graduates Two More Cohorts of Manufacturing Leaders and Lean Problem-Solvers
During the first week of June, Arizona MEP proudly celebrated the graduation of two of its most in-demand professional development programs: the 9th cohort of the Lean Green Belt Certification Course and the 14th cohort of the Leadership Development Program.
Both programs reflect Arizona MEP's commitment to serving as more than a training provider. Arizona MEP works closely with manufacturers to understand their workforce, leadership and operational challenges, then develops and refines practical training programs that help companies build internal capability, strengthen teams and solve real business problems.
Leadership Training Designed for Manufacturing Challenges
Arizona MEP launched the Leadership Development Program in 2023 in response to growing demand from manufacturers for practical, relevant leadership training. The program began as a seven-session series delivered by an external vendor, but as client needs became clearer, Arizona MEP took a more active role in shaping the program.
Arizona MEP assumed ownership of the curriculum and developed customized materials tailored to the unique environment of manufacturing companies. Working with a new facilitator, the team continued to refine the sessions to better support emerging and experienced leaders as they navigate communication, accountability, coaching, conflict resolution, change management and team performance.
Over the past two years, the Leadership Development Program has evolved into an intensive and highly effective training experience that reflects the realities manufacturers face every day. Since its launch, the program has graduated 290 students, helping companies strengthen their leadership pipelines and prepare employees for greater responsibility.
Lean Green Belt Turns Training into Measurable Savings
The Lean Green Belt Certification Course also began as a one-time offering and has grown into a highly anticipated program held twice each year. The five-day course combines hands-on instruction, interactive simulations and practical application of Lean methodologies to help participants identify waste, improve processes and drive measurable results inside their organizations.
A key feature of the program is its company-sponsored improvement project. Each participant selects a real operational challenge from their own workplace and applies Lean tools to develop and implement a solution. As part of the graduation requirements, participants prepare a written project report and present their findings on the final day of the course to fellow attendees, instructors and invited guests.
These presentations are a powerful part of the graduation ceremony, giving participants the opportunity to showcase the outcomes of their projects, share lessons learned and demonstrate how Lean principles can improve quality, efficiency and profitability.
To date, Arizona MEP has graduated more than 130 Lean Green Belt participants. On average, participants generate $35,000 in documented savings per student from a $2,500 investment. Even more impressive, every student who has completed the course has identified measurable savings through their company-sponsored project.
Building Capability That Lasts
The success of both programs demonstrates the value of training that is developed with manufacturers, not simply delivered to them. By listening to client needs and continuously improving course content, Arizona MEP has created programs that help manufacturers address two of their most common challenges: developing strong leaders and building a culture of continuous improvement.
Today, the Leadership Development Program and Lean Green Belt Certification Course are among Arizona MEP's most sought-after professional development offerings. Together, they equip employees with the confidence, tools and practical skills needed to strengthen teams, improve operations and support long-term organizational success.
The next Lean Green Belt Certification Course begins September 14, and the next Leadership Development Program cohort begins October 14.
